The Regional Rail Link Urban Design Strategy (UDS) provides an over arching spatial framework and design guidance for the RRL infrastructure and its integration with surrounding new and existing urban areas through Melbourne’s west and inner west.
The strategy was prepared by Rush Wright Associates in collaboration with the KBR/Arup and Cox Architects in a joint venture, as part of our engagement to Regional Rail Link in providing reference design and technical advice for the project. Our role extended to project bid tender reviews and ongoing technical advice to Government.
The Urban Design Strategy responds to government policy concerning transport, planning, design and good design principles, and embraces design aspirations and policies set out in the Local Planning Policy frameworks of the five councils along the route.
The Urban Design Strategy clearly expresses a design vision and principles for the future development of the Regional Rail Link Project.
The Urban Design Strategy has played a key role in the tendering process for each for the rail sections, providing a key point of reference for both the preparation and review of concept design proposal by the contract teams.
The document continues to inform the subsequent detailed design stages and construction of the Regional Rail Link project which is now underway.
The strategy may also provide guidance or the design of future works in and adjacent to the Regional Rail Link rail corridor.
